Update Day 31 after Bob's Fall
“It is well, it is well, through the storm I am held.” Lyrics from Lauren Daigle’s It is Well. Let’s just say I have listened to, sung and cried out these lyrics several times over the last month. Whether it be when his pain is so intense, all I can do is quietly play worship music and rub his legs and feet until relief arrives or as we hit new milestones we should celebrate, yet with each accomplishment comes the next hurdle. (why does it seem never ending). One week ago today, we brought daddy home, one month ago today was the day daddy fell. This past week has had many peaks and valley’s. The benefits of having him home far outweigh the challenges yet the challenges seem overwhelming at times, especially without the support of the hospital safety net. Bob’s progress: he has learned to do everything they can teach him at this time: sitting, standing, ‘walking', stairs, getting in and out of the bed, stepping over thresholds, transfers etc. Now he is in a bit of a waiting period, waiting until the bones completely heal in order to progress to the next level. Now he spends his PT time working on mobility and strengthening muscles in passive positions. Some highlights: Times where the girls just sit beside him and talk (the hospital atmosphere seemed to steal their zest for sharing). One evening, we just sat together and watched a movie and honestly for a brief time, things felt normal. The girls encouragement, they get all excited when they see him doing things, his own cheering squad. Dinner time - sitting together around the table but also the provision of meals being delivered to us. Prayer requests: continued healing, smooth paperwork and drs appts, all of our emotional well-being as we process this trauma, and supernatural relief from the pure exhaustion of healing and care taking. Side note: I am so proud of my husband, he has been so amazing through it all. From the moment he was able to speak again after the fall, he began to tell people he was okay. To the concern he felt in his heart every time he saw the look on someone’s face when they came to visit. He has drawn people in, prayed for them (when they had come to pray for him) and cared for his care givers. He has barely complained and has pointed us back to Christ each and every time something has surprised or derailed us. God’s promises are our stronghold. Scripture is our guide. I am honored to walk through this next to this man.
