A-HA Moment

The expression on children's' faces when they see the first sprout of a flower they tenderly planted is priceless.

That is an A-HA moment, which kids experience with so much more enthusiasm than we adults! Our adult A-HA's seem to become deeper and more solemn; but, all of us need to cherish our God's A-HA with the glee of a child.

One afternoon, my youngest daughter, Lindy, then 3 years old, and I were running errands. We had dropped off our car for a routine oil change and she and I were then headed to a restaurant for lunch. My mission was set: get to the restaurant, eat quickly, pick up the car and head out to our next errand.

Lindy's A-HA moment changed all that.

Just before we were to cross the street, we saw a butterfly. Well, to be more accurate, she saw a butterfly. I only saw the signal change three times before we crossed. Yes, Lindy played with the butterfly for three changing signals. She thought she could catch it and I believe she thought she could fly if she caught it. She was mesmerized and although I let her play, I was not enjoying her A-HA moment.

New sprouts, butterflies, blooming colors and even the pollen shade of yellow are all things to be celebrated.

This week, pick a flower together. Smell it, notice it, ask your kids what they see, ask them who they would like to pick a flower for and why. Then suggest you pick one for someone who needs to be cheered up.

Simple yet beautiful.

*This past year the families at Peachtree Presbyterian Church took the challenge together to look at choosing your faith in Jesus as a keepsake to be intentionally handed down to your kids. Part of that process included weekly emails to encourage bringing God into the center of our normal lives. These posts include some of those weekly emails and will continue as my Keepsake Token section.
