The First Gift

On this week of Christmas, where most families are celebrating kids out of school, scrambling to attend all the Christmas activities and finishing all the shopping. We can find ourselves to be a bit torn in our hearts and minds making Christmas about Jesus. I would like to share one simple thing we do in our house. An act that communicates clearly the most important gift on Christmas.
On Christmas morning we have a first gift. A gift that sits out in the middle of the room, you almost have to trip over to get to the other presents. It is a small red bag with the label, TO EVERYONE FROM GOD. Inside, I have collected every baby Jesus from the whole house. The nativity sets (we have several), the ornaments and the crafts the kids have made over the years. The bag is full of baby Jesus’. The kid’s first job, which needs no direction because it has become a tradition, is to return all the baby Jesus’ to the places they belong.
TO EVERYONE FROM GOD
A clear message to begin your Christmas Day. Feel free to make it a tradition in your home as well!
Merry Christmas!
*This past year the families at Peachtree Presbyterian Church took the challenge together to look at choosing your faith in Jesus as a keepsake to be intentionally handed down to your kids. Part of that process included weekly emails to encourage bringing God into the center of our normal lives. These posts include some of those weekly emails and will continue as my Keepsake Token section. December trinket = star tea light.
