A Different Kind of Compass

My 12-year-old daughter is now my co-pilot in the car. Not sure if she views this as a privilege or a punishment as she mans the map on my cell phone. And considering we have only lived in Atlanta for six months, she has been quite busy navigating our routes.

God gave the Israelites very clear guides to follow. For a time, He led them by a cloud during the day and a ball of fire at night! What an incredible visual.

Suggested table discussions: God gave us the Bible to be our compass in life. It can encourage, give words of wisdom, guide decisions, give perspective and so much more. Ask ‘how’ the bible can really do those things. This will aid in making the Bible applicable to our times, which kids need to hear.

Suggested action step: Take time to notice the clouds as a family. So much you can do with the clouds…talk about the Israelites and what it must have been like to follow a giant cloud. Count the clouds, see pictures in the clouds or try to blow the clouds across the sky! Be sure to talk about how God designed them and made them just for us!

*This past year the families at Peachtree Presbyterian Church took the challenge together to look at choosing your faith in Jesus as a keepsake to be intentionally handed down to your kids. Part of that process included weekly emails to encourage bringing God into the center of our normal lives. These posts include some of those weekly emails and will continue as my Keepsake Token section.
